Your year with Bee Motion.
What happens, and when.
Through the year
Receipts go straight into Dext from your phone. Bookkeeping done annually or quarterly, whichever suits you.
After 5 April
We pull your year together and send any questions in one go, so nothing is missed.
Before it's filed
A senior accountant reviews your return, then you e-sign it in your client portal.
31 January
Filed, with a payment schedule showing exactly what's due and when, including July's payment on account.
No guesswork. You get your tax calculation and a payment schedule, not just a bill.
What you need to know.
Registering for Self Assessment
If you need to file because you have started trading, you normally need to tell HMRC by 5 October after the end of the tax year in which you started. If you already file a return, check that HMRC knows about your self-employment. We can help you work out what applies.
Records and allowable expenses
Keep records of sales, expenses and supporting receipts. Dext lets you send receipts from your phone, while Sage keeps your bookkeeping organised. Business costs must meet the tax rules to be claimed, and any private use needs to be separated.
Payments on account and digital reporting
Payments on account are advance payments towards a future Self Assessment bill where the rules apply. They are normally due on 31 January and 31 July. MTD for Income Tax may also apply depending on your qualifying income. Your account manager helps you understand the reporting and payment schedule.
Read our MTD for Income Tax guideThinking about a limited company
A limited company may suit some businesses, but it brings different responsibilities and reporting. The decision depends on your plans, risk and personal circumstances, not a single income figure. We support businesses across Stockport and the surrounding areas and can talk through the options with you.
